With a population of about 6.5 million, there are over 40 nursing schools in Arizona – including three state universities, more than a few for-profit and multi-site universities, a private college, and community colleges. The state relies mainly on tourism, copper mining, and cotton production for the growth of its economy, but was hit hard by the recession.
Fortunately for RNs and would-be nurses, the nursing profession has continued to thrive. In fact, building of hospitals has been on the rise, while all other types of construction have slowed down drastically. The reason behind this is the state’s steady population growth over the last few decades, even while much of the area remains to be federal and state-protected land.

Graduates of any of these nursing degrees will have plenty of job opportunities waiting for them. It has been estimated that about 50,000 more registered nurses will be needed within the next nine years.
