Nursing Schools in Arizona

With a population of about 6.5 million, there are over 40 nursing schools in Arizona – including three state universities, more than a few for-profit and multi-site universities, a private college, and community colleges. The state relies mainly on tourism, copper mining, and cotton production for the growth of its economy, but was hit hard by the recession.

Fortunately for RNs and would-be nurses, the nursing profession has continued to thrive. In fact, building of hospitals has been on the rise, while all other types of construction have slowed down drastically. The reason behind this is the state’s steady population growth over the last few decades, even while much of the area remains to be federal and state-protected land.

Aside from the traditional LPN/LVN, ADN, BSN, and MSN degrees offered by the nursing schools in Arizona, there are also online degrees available for those want to pursue a fast-tracked, higher nursing education. Graduates of any of these nursing degrees will have plenty of job opportunities waiting for them. It has been estimated that about 50,000 more registered nurses will be needed within the next nine years. Staff nurse positions are in high demand and so are openings in physician and dental clinics, nursing care facilities, and home health agencies.

Central to many programs of nursing schools in Arizona is the emphasis on the health needs of rural patients and those of the Native American community. The Arizona State Board of Nursing oversees the licensing requirements for nurses, while the Arizona Nurses Associates serves as the support group for registered nurses, providing invaluable resources for career growth, information on new jobs, and opportunities for pursuing higher nursing degrees through its website.
