Nursing Schools in Colorado
In the rocky mountains high of this state, an aspiring nurse would be equipped to scale greater heights – and not just literally – with the many nursing schools in Colorado and programs available. With flourishing industries and growing cities, Colorado has become one of the fastest growing states in the country and this means more people of all age groups and varying health care needs.
The current nursing workforce of over 40,000 practicing in the 35 urban and 39 rural hospitals and in clinics, nursing homes and outpatient facilities across is simply inadequate. According to a report from the Colorado Nurses Association, there will be a staggering 30% vacancy in nursing jobs by the year 2020. This data bodes well for someone wishing to pursue a nursing career as there will obviously be excellent job opportunities for those in the health care industry for many years to come. While hospitals around the areas of Denver, Colorado Springs, Boulder, and other big cities continue to be the biggest employers, there is also a rising demand in home health and private care nursing.
At present, the state’s nursing shortage is easily twice the national average and the 35 or so nursing schools in Colorado have long waiting lists of applicants interested of filling in this need. It’s a good thing that other than campus-based schools, there are also online programs for LPN/LVN, ADN, BSN, and MSN degrees, allowing wait-listed individuals as well as non-nursing professionals who wish to change careers to fast track their way to becoming an RN. Nursing schools in Colorado are accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) and the Colorado Board of Nursing.
