Nursing Schools in Indiana
The Hoosier State boasts of some of the most popular athletic events and sports teams in the country, and there are over 40 nursing schools in Indiana – including some very well-respected institutions of higher learning such as Indiana University, Purdue University, and the University of Notre Dame.
Most of these schools offer the whole line of nursing and nursing-related degrees including LPN/LVN, the old school diploma program, 2-year ADN, 4-year BSN, RN-to-BSN, accelerated and second degree BSN, MSN, and post-graduate specialties. Still, the nursing schools in Indiana are not graduating students fast enough to keep up with the demand.
The state’s population is expected to grow by about 10% in 10 years’ time and coupled with a graying population, the need for health care workers will only escalate. This translates to job security and a lucrative career for nursing professionals, even as the recession has forced other industries to stop hiring.
Indiana has both bustling big cities and quaint small towns. On weekends, you may check out the RCA tennis matches, cheer for the Pacers, or watch the Indy 500. So you see, for anyone thinking about becoming a nurse here, it isn’t even all about the good Indiana nursing schools and a secure career. If you’re after the most competitive jobs in the industry, then you’d be better off in the large cities like Indianapolis, Fort Wayne, Evansville, and South Bend. Clarion Health, the St. John’s Health System, and the Community Healthcare System are among the biggest nurse employers in the state.
