Nursing Schools in Maryland

There are currently more than 30 nursing schools in Maryland yet these schools can’t produce nursing graduates fast enough to meet the demand. Indeed, registered nurses and nurse educators are very much needed here. Because of the lack of qualified faculty, nursing schools in Maryland are unable to accommodate more students into their programs and have to turn down hundreds of qualified applicants every year.

Nurses with at least a baccalaureate or bachelor’s degree are also in high demand in the state’s hospitals, nursing homes, clinics, and private care facilities. The Old Line State, as Maryland is also named, is home to 51 hospitals and according to a report by the Maryland Hospital Association, there was a 13 percent vacancy rate for the year 2006. This figure will only increase over time as the population grows.

Other than the high chances of employment for nurses, there are more than a few good reasons to pursue a nursing degree in Maryland. If you’re still starting out, then getting into any one of the reputable Maryland nursing schools, among them the reputable John Hopkins University School of Nursing and the University of Maryland, should give you the right skills training and experience necessary for a registered nurse.

Further, Maryland offers a higher-than-average salary for RNs compared to many other areas, even edging out high profile states like New York and New Jersey. Nurses who go on to pursue more advanced nursing degrees in specialty areas stand to have the best pick of jobs in the Baltimore-Washington area, subsequently, receiving higher wages and better benefits. An added bonus for a nurse settled in this state is its variety of recreational activities. With big cities, mountains, farms, historical places, beaches, and the unique Chesapeake Bay, Maryland is not called “America in Miniature” for nothing.
