Nursing Schools in Tennessee
Music is deeply embedded in the everyday life of the residents of Tennessee, with the “Volunteer State” being the birthplace of blues, rock and roll, and country music. Every year, thousands of tourists flock to Graceland in Memphis to marvel at the the legacy of Elvis or enjoy the Nashville music scene. There are nearly 62,000 nurses working in the state. The state board of nursing broadly classifies nurses here as licensed practical nurses, registered nurses and advanced practice nurses. Most working nurses in the state graduated from the 60+ nursing schools in Tennessee.
Among the best nursing programs are those offered by Vanderbilt University and the University of Tennessee Health Science Center. Applicants of these nursing schools must have minimum credentials such as a high school diploma, biochemistry, English, and algebra credits. Computer know-how must also be proven, especially by online students. But most importantly, enrollees must have a caring attitude for them to become truly effective nurses.
They should not forget to check a school’s accreditation status prior to applying. After all their hard work in nursing school, passing the NCLEX is the final hurdle for Tennessee nursing graduates.Students need to be aware that Tennessee is very active in extending financial assistance to them. The Tennessee Student Assistance Corporation is the designated agency that offers grants and loans to students. Federal aid in the the form of Pell Grants and Stafford Loans can also be availed. Likewise, the nursing schools have their own scholarship, tuition, and student loan programs.
Students can seek help through any of the aforementioned means. Tennessee is projected to have a shortfall of more than 14,000 nurses by 2020. Nursing schools in Tennessee plan to ramp up their graduation rates by 40 percent by that year to be able to match the demand. Hospitals, nursing homes and health care agencies will be welcoming graduates of nursing schools to take care of the state’s many seniors.
