Do This One Thing Before You Pursue Online Nursing Degrees

When you are looking at schools that offer online nursing degrees, how can you be sure that the school is legitimate? After all, everyone is jumping into the nursing education business these days to take advantage of the fact that there are long nursing school waiting lists at traditional institutions.

While these non-traditional options are convenient, they are often more expensive than traditional schools. The last thing you want to do is waste your hard-earned money (and time) on an online nursing degree that won’t be recognized in the state you live in. Believe it or not, this can happen if you’re not careful and if you don’t do your due diligence on these “new” nursing schools.

The most important thing you need to do is to contact your state Board of Nursing and make sure that they accredit the program you are considering. There are some very good online nursing degree programs that are accredited in some states and not others. If your state’s Board of Nursing does not approve the online nursing degrees you’re considering, then there is no point in attending. If you do, you will not be able to sit for the NCLEX-RN exam after you graduate. As you probably already know, the NCLEX is the all-important test that you MUST pass in order to be licensed as an RN.

If your state Board of Nursing does approve the online nursing program that you are interested in, than you are good to go – as long as you have the funds of course:)
