Popular Online Nursing Schools and Online Nursing Programs

Why are online nursing schools so popular today? The benefits of online nursing programs are hard to beat. They allow you to study and take classes online at the times that are most convenient to you, at your own pace, so you can advance your career while working and meeting the needs of your family. They also allow you to skirt the never-ending nursing school waiting lists that are typical at traditional institutions.

The most common online nursing programs include LPN to RN, RN to BSN, and RN to Master’s Degree in nursing. Some of these programs offer you the prerequisite classes that an LPN needs to advance to an RN degree, making it even easier to progress to the next level in your nursing career. It is very important to check with your State Board of Nursing to make sure that the online nursing schools you are considering meet their standards and requirements. The State Board of Nursing is the ultimate and only authority in this case. Not every state accepts their programs; some states accept some of them but not others.

Here are some of the more popular online nursing schools:

University of Phoenix – the grand daddy of online nursing schools; they offered one of the earliest nursing programs online

Kaplan University School of Nursing

Excelsior College

Drexel University

Walden University – for registered nurses seeking advanced degrees

The College Network – offers a well-known online nursing program

Indiana State University – LPN to BSN nursing program

Chamberlain College of Nursing

Money Saving Tip: Many online nursing schools charge an annual fee while you are in their program, as well as the individual fees for each course. If you can graduate within a year, you will save money by not having to pay the annual fee again. However, you are better off studying and taking courses at a pace that is comfortable you, so don’t rush through your courses so quickly that your grades suffer.
