Nursing Schools in Idaho
If you’re an Idahoan considering a career in nursing, then you should waste no time looking into nursing schools in Idaho. As with most other US states, Idaho faces a dire shortage of registered nurses and three major factors can be attributed to this: insufficient number of nursing faculty, the steadily increasing population, and the aging population.
While the lack of competent health professionals poses a big problem to Idaho’s leaders, the situation actually bodes well for those entering the nursing industry. The Department of Health and Human Services projects that by the year 2020, Idaho will have 30 percent less nurses than it would need by that time. This means a nurse will always be able to find gainful employment even in the next 10 years or so.
While nursing positions of all levels are needed in Idaho’s hospitals, clinics, home health agencies, and private care facilities, nurses with advanced degrees in particular are in highest demand. MSN students are trained to become administrators, nurse educators, and advanced nurse practitioners.
Presently, there are only about 14 nursing schools in Idaho, most of which are located in the main cities including Boise, Idaho Falls and Nampa. With such few schools, a lot of applicants are being turned away every year. Still, this shouldn’t discourage those unable to get in because online nursing programs are always a viable option. Besides, a nursing career in the Gem State is well worth the wait. RNs here enjoy a higher salary and better benefits than many other professions, and with a low cost of living that paycheck will stretch longer.
Plus, outside of their work duties, Idahoans have a wide range of choices for recreational and outdoor activities. Newly-graduated nursing students and nurses interested in relocating to Idaho should obtain information about licensing requirements from the Idaho Board of Nursing.
